To perceive, imagine, and reflect upon one's existence in relation to the world
"Proprioception is the perception of movement and spatial orientation arising from stimuli within the body itself. The 'body' here refers to both the artwork and also the person who is interacting with the work.
I am constantly exploring spaces where the urban environment and nature intersects. In each work, I invite contemplation so that the act of thinking about (non-linear) time and space can be transformed into an experience. Our relationships with the environment and questions of identity are explored through my work. In the immersive installations created, I play with concepts of visual perception and interactivity. Audiences can step into the installations and engage with it fully, as well as with each other. Abstract and organic forms with vivid colors boldly evoke and open up possibilities for reflective spaces and metaphorical journeys of discovery and transformation.
Different elements are merged to create these hybrid forms that expand the possibilities of drawing, painting, and sculpture. During the process of art making, I transform industrial materials, hand shaping them into immersive forms and merge them with other materials traditionally used by artists, such as canvas, paint, and fiber. The creation of my work is process driven and tactile sensation is created through interactions of diverse materials. In the process, I utilize all tools imaginable to forge a flow of meaning through the work. From there, I push the boundaries to explore the intersections of materiality, space and image.
At different stages, concepts of wholeness, suspension and expansion are weaved in to make a coherent, life affirming statement. I believe that it is worth exploring ideas of dialogue, identity, interconnectedness through art - ultimately to understand and respond to the world in a fresh new way.
